We are ESB Networks. We ensure that electricity gets to the homes and businesses of our 2.3 million electricity customers, safely and efficiently. We have invested over €6bn in the electricity network over the last 10 years to ensure that it is reliable and enables communities and businesses in Ireland to grow and develop.
We provide a wide range of services to our customers, all of whom need to be registered with an electricity supplier. Each year we carry out over 9 million meter readings and provide these to your supplier in order to ensure you receive correct billing. We also deliver a range of technical services such as restoring supply when network faults occur, for example due to storms. Other services, some of which are chargeable, include undertaking line alterations at the customer’s request and carrying out service alterations requested via suppliers.
Whether you are a domestic or a commercial customer, we will provide a new electricity connection that best suits your needs.
Your safety is our priority. Electricity is a powerful energy source but it can be dangerous. Always follow our safety guidelines. To ensure you stay safe, stay clear of overhead, underground and fallen electricity wires, always look out for electricity wires when you are outside . ‘Stay safe, stay clear’. For emergencies call 1850 372 999.
Acting responsibly in all aspects of our business is one of our key priorities.

Background and Process
ESB Networks has developed a Load Indices (LI) approach for introduction and first use in the upcoming Price Review 5 (PR5) period (2021 – 2025) in order to manage and track changes in the peak loading at its substations and to demonstrate the effectiveness of its distribution reinforcement activities.
This proposed LI approach has been developed as part of the Planning and Security of Supply Standards Review which is an Innovation Project under the ‘Connecting Renewables’ roadmap, which is one of eight roadmaps within the overall ESB Networks’ Innovation Strategy. This proposal is one of the early outputs from the Planning and Security of Supply Standards Review.

Innovation in ESB Networks - Aug 2019 | Download PDF | 20 MB
In order to realise our vision of delivering a sustainable, low carbon energy network that will serve Ireland’s future energy needs, we have developed an Innovation Strategy to manage every stage of the development and implementation of strategic initiatives, from setting the vision to establishing business as usual (BAU). Our Innovation Strategy has been applied to a balanced portfolio of projects covering eight roadmaps that broadly cover our ambition to deliver new and improved services.
During 2018, 16 projects were completed and the others continued to progress. We have over 20 new ideas that we have identified for further consideration and possible progression into our roadmaps.
1. As part of this on going collaboration and communication, we are interested to seek your views on our innovation processes, activities and priorities to date as summarised in this update document. In particular, we are interested in feedback on our proposed new projects listed at the end of the document.
The consultation period will close on Friday 13th September 2019. At the end of the consultation period, ESB Networks will review and consider all the comments.
