Key Facts

Every day in Ireland 13 people die from a cardiac arrest and around 70% of these happen at home.

CPR can double if not triple a person's chance of survival in the event of a cardiac arrest.
Through Hands for Life, we are offering free CPR training courses in communities throughout Ireland.  We will train 100,000 people in the life-saving skill of CPR.

Hands for Life - Community CPR training is an Irish Heart Foundation programme, supported by ESB Networks, which offers free CPR training to communities across Ireland from March 2019.  In the next two years, together we will train 100,000 people in the life saving skill of CPR.

At a Hands for Life training course, you will learn how to perform CPR with hands-on practice on a manikin.  You will learn how to:

  • Recognise a cardiac arrest
  • Perform CPR
  • Use an Automated External Defribrillator (AED)
  • Respond to a choking emergency
  • Recognise a stroke

Each training course takes less than an hour and when it is over, you will know how to perform CPR and feel fully equipped to use your CPR skills in a cardiac emergency.

Hands for Life training courses are being held in local communities throughout Ireland.  To find your nearest course, visit www.handsforlife.ie where you will find a list of all upcoming training courses.  Everyone aged 18 and over is welcome to attend.

No, Hands for Life courses are free to attend and take part.

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) involves recognising someone is having a cardiac arrest, contacting the emergency services on 112 or 999, and pushing hard and fast on the chest.

Through the Hands for Life programme, ESB Networks and the Irish Heart Foundation aim to build a nation of life savers by training people the life-saving skill of CPR.
