Apprenticeship FAQs

How do I apply?

Our 2025 Electrical Apprenticeship Programme application form will be available online from Saturday 1st March until Sunday, 6th April.

To find out more about what the programme involves, how to apply, and whether it’s the right one for you, you can email us at apprentices@esb.ie.

What is the minimum age to apply?

Our ESB Networks Apprenticeship is open to anyone aged 17 or over on the 1st of June 2025. That means your year of birth must be on or before 1st June 2008.

What are the entry requirements?

As long as you meet the minimum age requirements, you can apply for our Apprenticeship Programme using your Junior Certificate, Leaving Certificate or Leaving Certificate Applied. For more details - or if your exam qualifications were obtained outside Ireland - see our Apprentice brochure.

Can I make changes to the application?

Please check your application thoroughly before sending it to us as we are unable to accept any changes once you have submitted. Ideally, ask someone to review your application for you to check that all fields are completed and details are correct.

When will I receive a decision?

We receive a considerable number of applications and review each one thoroughly, but we cannot give specific dates as to when you will hear about the status of your application.

Please check your given email address regularly as this is where all communication relating to your application will be sent.

Can I apply after the deadline?
Due to the high volume of applicants, we are not able to accept any applications after the closing dates. If you are facing a problem that might delay your application,  email apprentices@esb.ie as soon as possible. Once the deadline has passed, we cannot offer any assistance.
What does the medical assessment entail?
We do request that all successful candidates complete a full body medical examination to assess physical health, including an eye test. This examination will be conducted by a certified member of the ESB Health Centre team.
How long does the online assessment take?

Applicants are required to take a one-hour online assessment. This must be completed within five days of receiving the email containing the test. Any session with longer than five minutes of inactivity will time out and cannot be completed, so make sure you have a strong Wi-Fi connection and a quiet location to work in.

Where can I address further queries?

If you have additional questions, or need clarification about anything covered in the Apprentice Brochure, please feel free to email us at apprentices@esb.ie and one of our team will respond to you quickly.
