Environmental information requests

Categories of information you can request from ESB Networks DAC under the regulations

Only environmental information can be requested under the Regulations; "environmental information" means any information in written, visual, aural, electronic or any other material form on:

  • a. the state of the elements of the environment, such as and atmosphere, water, soil, land, landscape and natural sites including wetlands, coastal and marine areas, biological diversity and its components, including genetically modified organisms and the interaction among these elements;
  • b. factors, such as substances, energy, noise, radiation or waste, including radioactive waste, emissions, discharges and other releases into the environment, affecting or likely to affect the elements of the environment
  • c. measures (including administrative measures), such as policies, legislation, plans, programmes, environmental agreements, and activities affecting or likely to affect the elements and factors referred to in paragraphs (a) and (b) as well as measures or activities designed to protect those elements;
  • d. reports on the implementation of environmental legislation
  • e. cost-benefit and other economic analyses and assumptions used within the framework of the measures and activities referred to in paragraph (c); and
  • f. the state of human health and safety, including the contamination of the food chain, where relevant, conditions of human life, cultural sites and built structures in as much as they are, or may be, affected by the state of the elements of the environment referred to in paragraph (a) or, through those elements, by any of the matters referred to in paragraphs (b) and (c).
How to make a request to ESB Networks DAC?

As provided for under the AIE Regulations, ESB Networks DAC will try to respond to your request as soon as possible. No later than one month after the receipt of your request we will either respond with a decision, notify you of the transfer of your request to another Public Authority or notify you that an extra month is required (as provided under the AIE Regulations) to deal with your request.

  • state that the request is made under the AIE Regulations
  • state your name, address and any other relevant contact details
  • state as specifically as possible, the environmental information that you require, and
  • if you desire access to the environmental information in a particular form or manner, specify the form or manner of access desired.
  • be made in writing or electronic form
Right of appeal

Under the AIE Regulations, you have the right to request an internal appeal of any decision issued to you in response to a request for environmental information made in accordance with the AIE Regulations. Details on how to request an internal appeal will be set out in the response issued to you.
