Before you proceed

You have chosen to apply for a reconnection. This application process will take 10-15 minutes to complete.

Project time frame & typical pricing

  • We aim to provide a quote within 15 business days.
  • A site visit may be required to assess the situation and if no additional work is needed to bring the connection point up to current standards, the house can be reconnected on payment of a re-energisation charge. However, if the connection point is not up to current standards it will be treated as a new connection and a full new connection charge applies. The typical charge for a single, standard connection (12 kVA)  is €3,478 and for a single enhanced connection (16 kVA) €4,710.
  • Once you have accepted the quote and made payment, we aim to complete your new connection within 60 business days.

While we will make every effort to meet these target timeframes,  you may experience delays due to current high demand.  We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause you.

Mandatory information & documentation

Reconnection checklist

In order to provide you with a valid quote, accurate information must be provided in your application. The following are required to complete the application:

Identify your dwelling's exact location

In order to identify your exact location we need at least one of the following:

  • Accurate X/Y ITM or GPS coordinates to identify your dwelling’s exact location and orientation

    • How to find your Site’s ITM Co-Ordinates
ITM centre point co-ordinates are usually found on your Ordnance Survey Location Map in the top right corner.  They are expressed as two six-digit numbers, separated by a comma.

    • How to find your Site’s GPS Co-Ordinates
GPS co-ordinates provide your location in latitude and longitude and appear as two numerical values, such as (51.877520, -8.507442).

The easiest way to find your GPS co-ordinates is by using Google Maps.  On a smartphone or computer, drop a pin on the exact location of your site.  You will need to zoom in as far as you can to provide a precise location.  To drop a pin, click or touch and hold on the location of your site.

On a mobile, once you’ve dropped the pin, touch it to reveal the GPS co-ordinates.  On desktop, the GPS co-ordinates will appear when you drop the pin or right click and select ‘What’s here’. Latitude and longitude will appear at the bottom of the screen.

  • The Meter Point Reference Number (MPRN) of the propertyYou will find this number on any old electricity bill. Alternatively you could take the number of the Meter and contact us on 1800 372 757 and we will locate it.

  • The Eircode of the property

You should be able to locate the eircode on the Eircode Finder website

Frequently asked questions

The property has been disconnected on safety grounds and I need to get it reconnected?

ESB Networks can arrange reconnection of a property without a supplier request when a property has been disconnected on safety grounds, and the reconnection is completed within 24 hours of the disconnection. Please note a cert from an electrical contractor may be required to confirm the internal wiring is safe before the reconnection can be completed. If the reconnection cannot be completed within 24 hours, you will need to contact your supplier and request a reconnection order. You will still need a cert from an electrical contractor.

I am a new occupant of the property, do I need to know who the previous supplier was?

No, if you are a new occupant of the property, it does not matter who the previous supplier was.  Register with a supplier of your choice and request the reconnection.  As part of this process the previous supplier is contacted, if necessary, by the Meter Registration System Operator (MRSO) a "ringfenced" function within ESB Networks who is responsible for the Change of Supplier process.

There has been building work done and now I want a reconnection?

If you have made a change to the internal wiring and the meter location needs to be moved, a service alteration work order will be needed in addition to the reconnection order. First contact your supplier and arrange the reconnection to be sent to ESB Networks, next contact ESB networks to discuss the service alteration. For more information on service alterations please see Service Alterations.

The property was disconnected for less than 6 months, but I was not given an appointment by my supplier?

If no appointment is agreed with your supplier when the order is received by ESB Networks, our system will automatically allocate it to an ESB Networks Technician who will visit the site within the standard timeframe of 2 to 5 working days to complete the reconnection. If for some reason the ESB Networks Technician cannot complete the reconnection when they visit the site, our scheduling team will contact you to agree an appointment.
