Sometimes, your electricity service may need to be relocated due to building work you are carrying out or other circumstances.
A service alteration involves a change to the service bringing electricity to a premises.
An overhead service alteration involves the service that runs overhead from a pole to the premises, often attached to the chimney or gable end.
An underground service alteration involves the service that runs underground from a pole or minipillar to the premises.
To apply for a service alteration:
Please have your Meter Point Reference Number (MPRN) to hand.
If the ESB Networks meter is also being relocated, ESB Networks need to be advised at the time of the request for the service alteration.
If the service cable is being relocated underground, your contractor will need to install an underground duct for the cables to run through. You will need to inform ESB Networks when the duct is ready.
Your electrical contractor will need to do whatever internal wiring alterations are necessary to relocate the meter to the new position. A completion certificate must then be submitted by the contractor when they have this work done.
Once the payment, wiring cert and ducting (if applicable) have been received, we will complete the service alteration within 5 to 6 weeks.
There is a charge for a service alteration which must be paid in advance.
Once you have your quote, you can pay in the way that suits you best. When making payment please have your quotation to hand for reference number purposes.
