Meter Rewiring Service
To ensure your electrical installation meets current safety and performance standards, ESB Networks offers a service to upgrade the wiring of your electricity meter, specifically the "tails" connecting the meter to your electrical installation.
Our Rewiring service is typically required after a new electric shower has been installed, when the internal fuse board has been upgraded on your property, or occasionally when an electric vehicle charger has been installed that requires an isolator switch.
Your electrical contractor will confirm whether you need to apply for this service with ESB Networks.
What you Need to know
You must first register for an ESB Networks Online Account and link the MPRN of the property where the rewiring work is required.
This upgrade service focuses solely on upgrading the 'tails' on your electricity meter.
Your electrical contractor will carry out the necessary work on your installation or home wiring once completed they will need to submit their Safe Electric certification.
On receipt of the certificate and once the application is submitted through the ESB Networks Online Account, ESB Networks will upgrade the meter's wiring 'tails' to ensure it meets the demands of your upgraded installation.
Upgrading the meter 'tails' can improve the safety and reliability of your electrical supply, ensuring it meets modern standards and can handle the demands of your installation.
Please note there is a fee of €200.00 plus VAT and this can be paid using the ESB Networks Online Account.
Steps to get started
- Contact Your Electrical Contractor: Arrange for a certified electrical contractor to assess your current installation and determine the necessary upgrades.
- Co-ordinate with ESB Networks through your ESB Networks Online Account: Once the certificate and payment has been sent to ESB Networks, we will then schedule the meter 'tails' upgrade. Please note you will need to make an application through your ESB Networks Online Account.
- Upgrade Completion: ESB Networks will ensure that the wiring 'tails' at the meter is upgraded and compliant with current regulations.
