Moving multi-unit premises

Step 1 - Get your MPRN and MIC 

To arrange your new connection you will first need to get the Meter Point Reference Number (MPRN) and Maximum Import Capacity (MIC) for your new premises. Your developer or the builder can provide you with these.

Step 2 - Check the MIC 

Your connection is also assigned a Distribution Use of System (DuoS) group. Together with the MIC, this forms the basis for calculating the ongoing use of system charges. It is important that you select the appropriate MIC for your business need as this will have direct implications on future charges. Your electrical engineer/contractor can advise you on the most appropriate MIC.

Please contact ESB Networks on 1800 372 757 or +353 21 2386555 to arrange a change to an MIC. We will work with the builder or developer to bring electricity lines and cables to each unit. The process for making the connection live depends on the size of your MIC.

Step 1- Contact an electricity Supplier 

To set up an electricity account in your name, simply contact the electricity supplier of your choice with your Meter Point Reference Number (MPRN). Step 1- Register with an electricity supplier  

Register with an electricity supplier of your choice to request that your connection be made live. You will need the address of the premises and your MPRN.

Step 2- Electrical contractor submits wiring certificate 

The electrical contractor who is certifying the electrical wiring in your premises, must also send a wiring certificate to his/her regulatory body quoting your MPRN and address.

Step 3 - Work is scheduled

Once we have the necessary infrastructure in place  we can then schedule the work required to make your new connection live.

Step 4 - Electricity is switched on

Our electrical contractor will then switch on the electricity in your premises.

Step 2 - Sign and return connection agreement 

We will send you a connection agreement which you must sign and return to:

Please note that any amendments to the Connection Agreement will require a new document to be issued.
