Apprentice FAQ's

You can apply here . All applicants must first register for an account.  Please note that registering for this account does not constitute submitting an application.

All applicants must be aged 16 or over on or before the 1st June 2019.  This means applicants must be born on or before 1st June 2003.
Applicants can apply using their Junior Certificate, Leaving Certificate or Leaving Certificate Applied results.  For applicants who completed their examinations outside of Ireland, they must meet the entry criteria in their relevant examinations set out in the Apprenticeship brochure | Download PDF 2 MB 
No. Once applications are submitted the information is final.  We advise all applicants that they should have their application reviewed by someone else before submission.
We are unable to give specific dates as to when applicants will hear about their application status.  We advise all applicants to use an email address that they themselves can check regularly as this is where all communication regarding their application will be sent.
Applicants have one hour to complete their online assessment. If they are inactive for longer than five minutes the session will time out and they will be unable to complete their assessment. All assessments must be completed within five days of receiving the email containing the assessment test. A strong Wi-Fi connection is essential to complete this assessment and we advise candidates to do this assessment on a laptop or PC in a quiet location
No. All efforts should be made to have the applications completed and returned between the 18th February and the 25th March. If applicants face any problems that may delay their application they should contact ESB's dedicated Apprentice line on 1890 39 39 39 or email apprentices@esb.ie  as soon as possible. We cannot assist applicants who have a problem once the closing date has passed.
All successful candidates must complete a full body medical examination conducted by a member of the ESB Health Centre team. All aspects of the individuals physical health will be examined, including an eye test.
