About the Dingle Project

At ESB Networks, we build and maintain Ireland's electricity network, connecting you to a clean electric future. In a unique initiative, ESB Networks teamed up with a west Kerry community in 2018 and launched the “Dingle Project”. This €5 million, three-year project was set up to better understand the impact of clean-energy technologies and associated customer behaviours on the local network. This will help inform the design and development of a smart, resilient, low-carbon, electricity network for the future.

The Dingle Project deployed a range of low-carbon technologies including solar PVs, air-source heat pumps, residential batteries, electric vehicles and smart EV chargers across 35 homes and small businesses. Five local project ambassadors, 10 electric vehicle ambassadors and 20 solar PV champions have shared their experiences of using these technologies in their day-to-day lives, supporting the diffusion of low carbon transformation across the wider peninsula and beyond.

In December 2021, we ran ESB Networks' Dingle Project Webinar Series to share insights, observations and learnings. We heard from our project ambassadors on their experiences working with us on this initiative and heard from other experts across the energy sector.
