More than 1.6 million smart electricity meters have now been installed in homes, farms, and businesses across Ireland by ESB Networks.  

Smart meters empower customers to take more control of their consumption through their ESB Networks Online Account. This account gives customers access to detailed information about their electricity usage, to help them make informed choices on their consumption and tariff options.  

Smart meter customers are now benefitting from the new technology including: 

• Over 226,000 views by customers of their electricity usage data on the My Energy Consumption option on the online account. 
• 1 in 5 smart meter customers are now availing of a smart service or tariff.
• 99% of smart meter customers no longer receive estimated bills as the new technology provides automatic reads.

It is important to note that there is no change to a customer’s electricity price plan following the installation of a smart meter unless they initiate a change with their supplier.
