EV Recharging Infrastructure Connection Screening
EV Recharging Infrastructure Connection Screening
To support the electrification of transport, we have developed a screening process to share specific information on sites being considered for public EV recharging infrastructure by customers. The output of this screening process will be a Purple-Red-Amber-Green status of the distribution network for their proposed locations.
Points to note:
1. Submission of sites to be screened does not constitute an application for connection to the distribution system. Customers may submit applications for their sites at the same time as issuing applications for screening, or may choose to wait for the results of the screening process before submitting applications
A formal application to ESB Networks is required in order for a connection study to be completed. A connection offer will be issued based on this study in due course. Applications are studied in sequential order.
2. The output of the screening process should be viewed as a high level assessment of network availability. It is not based on a full connection study which will be completed as part of the formal connection application process. The screening output is valid at the time of issue and does not constitute a guarantee that a connection will be provided in the time indicated or at the estimated cost provided. Network availability may be affected by applications from, and acceptance of, offers by other customers.
It is expected that submissions of sites to be screened will come from Charge Point Operators who may have several alternative site options. Customers who do not have options regarding site choice should simply apply for connection. In all cases customers are requested to advise ESB Networks as early as possible if they do not intend to proceed with an application.
It is advisable that customers who require 100 kVA power capacity or less, simply apply for connection, as the connection quotation guarantee for these customers is within 15 working days of application for connection, as per our 12 service guarantees to you. This is the fastest way for customers with a capacity of up to 100 kVA to receive a quote.
Please also note, this process is being introduced on a phased basis and we invite EV recharging infrastructure customers to provide feedback to the email address screening@esb.ie, to help us further refine the process.
The two options for the screening process are:
A. Screening Prior to Connection Application
1. Customer requests support through the following steps:
- Customer emails ESB Networks at screening@esb.ie to request the screening form.
- Customer completes form for maximum of 10 sites.
- Customer emails completed form to screening@esb.ie
- ESB Networks reviews the form; if additional information is required the customer will receive an email from screening@esb.ie stating the request.
- Customers who successfully complete the form will receive notification on progression to site screening process.
2. Site screening process by ESB Networks:
- ESB Networks will carry out site screening process and provide the customer with the outcome of the process via email.
3. ESB Networks evaluates their options and submits new connection application(s) for their chosen site(s).
B. Connection Application Combined with Screening
1. Online submission of new connection:
- Customer submits new connection online.
- Customer sends notification for screening request to screening@esb.ie stating the notification ID received during application. (Notification ID example 5000XXXXXX).
- ESB Networks reviews the new connection application; if additional information is required, the customer will receive an email from screening@esb.ie stating the request.
- Successfully completed requests for screening will receive notification on progression to site screening process.
2. Site screening process by ESB Networks:
- ESB Networks will carry out site screening process and provide the customer with the outcome of the process via email.
3. The customer evaluates their options and customers need to inform ESB Networks if they wish to Proceed or Withdraw their application for connection, submitting the notification ID, from the new connection application process.
