Public Consultation on Capacity Provision for Growth in Microgeneration Connections
Background
Under the Smarter HV and MV Customer Connections Innovation Project, the methods used by ESB Networks to determine how to connect our customers to the distribution system, namely the Distribution System Security and Planning Standards, were fundamentally reviewed in collaboration and consultation with stakeholders and consultants to establish how the standards needed to evolve to meet the changing needs of our customers in a lower carbon future.
CRU approved Version 3 of the Distribution Security of Supply and Planning Standards, and two associated documents; Non-Wires Alternatives to Network Development and Non-Firm Access for Distribution Connected Distributed Generators, on 23rd September 2020. These standards have been published on the ESB Networks website. Within the approved standards, was the inclusion as an interim measure, of an allowance in capacity of 30% of one HV/MV transformer, to allow for expected future growth in microgeneration connections.
While this measure was approved by CRU in September 2020, a commitment was given to seek the views of stakeholders and interested parties, through a public consultation in late 2020.

Public Consultation on Distribution System Interfaces for Public On-Street EV Charging
Background:
Ireland’s Climate Action Plan, released in 2019, and the National Energy & Climate Plan, released in 2020, has set a target for 936,000 electric vehicles by 2030. While it is envisaged that the majority of consultation will take place at home, public on-street chargepoint infrastructure will also be required.
This consultation will present an overview of new solutions for the connection of public on-street EV charging infrastructure to the distribution system that is consistent with current legislation and presents possible new interface solutions to facilitate both high powered (22 kW) and low powered (7 kW) chargepoints.
